240 volt reduced to 120

I have a 30 amp 240 volt breaker that i would like to convert to 120 volts. Is there any way to do this outside of the breaker box or do i have to replace the breaker?

To convert this to 120 volts, (assuming we are talking about a 30 amp 240 volt 3 wire circuit that is ran in type NM cable) , the white wire would have to be removed from the 2 pole breaker and placed on the neutral bar in the panel. If your intentions are to use this circuit for standard receptacles or lighting, then the existing breaker needs to replaced with a single pole 15 or 20 amp breaker also. Do not use the 30 amp breaker for receptacles or lighting!!

Thanks for the info.. That is what I thought had to be done but I am far from qualified to do it myself.. I was hoping there was something I could have done outside the box but I guess not.

Thank you for the help
