ceiling fan light pull chain

the pull chain for the light fixture on the ceiling fan does not work. should i try to fix the pull chain or buy a new light fixture for the ceiling fan? it's a cheap ceiling fan and im not even sure what brand it is. do all light fixtures for ceiling fans fit all ceiling fans??

Normally a simple procedure to replace the switch. ENSURE POWER IS OFF AT THE BREAKER. Remove the globe or whatever and gain access to the area where the switch is, usually three screws to remove the cover or the switch may be visible as soon as you remove the globe/lights. Locate the switch, it will probably be held in place with a screw-off piece on the outside. Remove switch. Remove wire nuts from connection, if so equiped, or cut the wires. Take switch to home center and get replacement. Install in reverse order using wire nuts to reconnect to the wiring in the fan.
