Fist contact the utility company and see if they will seperately meter the garage for you.
You will find that either they wont do it, or it is too much $$$ to install the new service from the utility.

This is not a problem. Contact a electrician and let him go to work. The power co. will not be a problem.

Depending upon where you live, the power company will not let you do this. In many places they only allow one meter for a single family residence and will not bend this rule no matter what you are doing. Contact them first.
