How Do I Active A Phone Jack?
#1

I have a phone jack in my house that isn't working. When I pulled it from the wall, it was connected to red, green, yellow, and black wires. However, when I pulled a working jack from the wall to compare, it was connected to blue and blue/white wires only. No other colored wires were coming from the wall. How do I activate the jack with the red, green, yellow, and black wires?

Red and green are the color of wires in old phone cord. Blue and blue/white are the colors of the wires that serve the same purpose in newer cat3 or cat5 cable.
There are several possible ways to proceed, and it's hard to predict what might work. If you can find a jack in your house that has both of the two sets of wires in the box, you could interconnect them in that box. Otherwise, if you have a network interface box on the outside wall of your house, you could see if that box had both sets of wires.
Bottom line is that you need to find somewhere to interconnect the old wiring and the new wiring. It's just a matter of looking a lot of places, starting with the places I already mentioned.
