Code Question

Is there a maximum number of recessed lights that may be connected to a single circuit? For example, assuming you have a 15 Amp line (80% derating equalling 1440 Watts), can you install any number of recessed lights (e.g., twenty 50W recessed lamps), as long as you do not exceed the 1440 Watt rating, or are you limited to a max. of, for example, 12 lights per circuit?
Thanks
Steve

If that is the only load on the circuit you are good to go.

Go by the maximum rated lamp for the fixture, not by what you will be putting into it.

Thanks for the replies. Speedy, I should have been clearer. When I refered to 50 Watt lamps, I meant a fixture designed for a 50 Watt max. lamp.
