remote control

I have a chamberlin garage door opener that I know can be programed to turn my outdoor lights on or off. Does anyone know how that can be done?

Thanks!

I've never heard of anything like this. I can't imagine how it would even work unless your outside light's circuit is somehow fed into your garage door opener.

I assume you are talking about the remote transmitter for the garage door opener rather than the garage door opener itself. If your transmitter has multiple buttons on it, you can buy accessories that allow you to turn on other things with the other buttons. When you buy the accessories, they will come with instructions on how to program them.

Oops! You are right that it is the transmitter. My previous transmitter was set up to turn my outdoor light on or off. The light is old and I do not have any instructions for it. Was hoping there was a generic way to program this, seeing as the man who did program it for me did not have instructions either.
Thanks bunches for you help.

Look at the light fixture that you want to turn on. See if there is some kind of receiver in it. See if that receiver has a button on it. Usually you just hold down the button on the receiver and press the button on the transmitter.

These are sometimes used with the X-10 or Levitton Home Control type units.
