lluminated Dance Floor

Well, it's not exactly a purely electrical question, but I thought there were probably some smart people around here, so here it goes.

Does anyone have any ideas about wiring an illuminated dance floor? Like they had in the Disco era?

What kind of lights should I use?
Can I put the lights, and wiring inside a wooden box or is that a fire hazard?

And any other comments you might have. i know this is way out in left field, but its worth a shot right?

Rent "Saturday Night Fever" and study how they did it.

Sorry, I can't be of more help.

They installed one in an episode of Monster House. Four colored lights per square and a pretty large area. Tons of sockets and wiring run back to the controller. I think it kept two guys (at least one an electrician) busy for the better part of the five days.

It is typically raised floor (computer room flooring) with translucent inserts for the floor squares, and a bunch of lights.
