light not working?
Hello,
my question is as follows:
My wife purchased a device that screws into a light socket between the socket and the bulb...The device was designed to turn the light on at dusk and off at dawn...the problen occured when after screwing the device into the socket ( which is outside)...Once the device was in place, the light fixture in our master bedroom stopped working( the switch would not turn the light on)...I unscrewed the device and removed it...the outside light socket worked fine once the bulb was replaced, but the master bed light continued to not work...I have looked at the panel and there is no evidence of a tripped breaker...I have also unscrewed the fixture to see if any wires had potentially come loose...all appeared to be conected...
I am now at a loss and wondering if anyone has a suggestion...
ps: The light fixture in the bedroom seems to be directly in line (wired) to the outside light...I was up in the attic and there does not appear to be any loose conections or burned wire ( no smell)
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance to all who respond,
Mike

This sounds like pure coincidence to me. I don't think your outside light is at all related to your bedroom light.
So you need to diagnose the bedroom light failure. Try these things in this order:
So you need to diagnose the bedroom light failure. Try these things in this order:
- Replace the light bulb.
- Turn the bedroom breaker off and back on again, even though it doesn't looked tripped. If you're not sure which breaker it is, turn them all off and back on.
- Look for a tripped GFCI.
- Replace the wall switch.
- Shut off the breaker and check the wiring in every box on this circuit.
- Post back.
