Light in staircase/garage out

The staircase to our garage has a light bulb that went out. Apparently, when it was turned on the other day, it "popped" & the bulb was out. I replaced the bulb (100w) with a new 100w bulb and it still does not work. I checked the circuit breaker and all is well. I flipped both switches on and still no light. There is little light down there & was unable to determine if there was any damage or loose wiring around the socket. The bulb screwed in tightly and I am not too sure if the damage exists any further. Any ideas before I call an electrician?

Check for a tripped GFCI. Do you need more than just that hint?

I have seen the center contact of a lamp soket rotate so that it touched the shell. This would cause a good pop if just right but usually just trips the breaker.
Sounds like something in the socket or fixture wiring. Look closely up into the socket and see if the center contact is intact.

There was no contact with the bulb. It appeared to have been missplaced, possibly with the pop? I just readjusted it and it works fine now.

Thanks!
