Cost of rewiring a house

I live in Baltimore and was considering having my house (approx 1100 square feet) rewired (have mishmash of wiring types including knob and tube) and my service box upgrade from 100 amps.

Most of my walls and ceilings are open and I received a quote of $4,000 to rewire, add outlets, phone and cable jacks. The electrician said that this should take about a day to do.

Does this sound right?

I work in the Washington DC area right down 95 from you about forty minutes away. If that price covers a complete rewire of the whole house it is a competative price.

I'd say it's a downright bargain if the work is done well, I'd have gone for about 7,500 by the description.
