Unhappy half house does not have electricity

Today for no good reason, half of my house is out of electricity. Some of the lights start to flickering, then went out. I have two electric panel in the basement. I reset all the circuit breaker but still did not work. The outage is so random that I can't figure out the cause. For example, two furnace is on the same panel, one works, but the other does not. The dryer is on the same panel as the washer, one works, the other does not.

Could this be a problem of utility company, such as loose connection outside? Or a lot of my circuit breakers failed in random fashion?

Thank guys if you have some idea. Have great holidays.

It is highly likely there is a problem with the utility. Is the servie entrance overhead? Those connections often fail or possible a corroded connetion in the meter base. Do you have any 240V appliances and do they work? Do you have a voltage tester? I would be tempted to all the power company.

Half a house without power is a red hot smoking gun. Call your power company. They work late, so do it right now! They have a bunch of guys who deal with issues exactly like this all the time. They will be happy to come out and check this out at no cost to you.

Read this.

problem solved

The utility company came out. One leg of the power (I guess there may be 2 lines) was cut by a settling rock. They fixed it. Thank guys.
