new double switches

Hi,
I am changing switches in an old house.I have double switches in my livingroom.old switches wiring all on one side
top white wiring
middle black
bottom black

My new switches have 2 on one side and one on the other

Top right brass screw
bottom right black screw
bottom left brass screw

What is the correct connection?
Thanks,

Good afternoon Jayal. Take a close look at the old switch before you remove it. One of the screws will be a different colour than the other two. It might also be marked "common". The wire that is on that screw goes to the black screw of the new switch. The other two wires are "travellers" and go one each to the brass screws of the new switch. It doesn't matter which one goes to which brass screw. Be sure to open the circuit breaker or remove the fuse to this light circuit before starting work.
Have a good day and let us know how your project worked out.

I take from your description that these are 3 way switches. There are 2 switches in different locations that control one fixture.
When you replace these switches replace them one at a time and test if they work. It is easy to get one switch working. It is much more difficult to get 2 mis wired 3ways working.
