Question 3-way circuit

I am wiring a 3-way circuit which has a switch radiating the light fixture and the second switch. My do-it-yourself book does not have that example in it.

(Power source coming into the switch; 14-2 from the switch to the light; 14-3 from the switch to the other switch)

Any thoughts???

If this is what you have.
Power into SW1 the 14/3 to the light and 14/3 to the other SW2.

then hook it up like this

at sw1
Power in black to common on SW1. Power in white to white to light. Red and black from light to traveller screws on SW1.

At light
sw1 red to sw2 red.
sw1 black to sw2 white.
sw1 white to light fixture white.
sw2 black to light fixture black

At sw2
Black to common screw.
red and white to traveller screws.

Let me try again. I think Joe misunderstood your cabling.

At Switch#1:
  • Power cable black to common (black) screw.
  • Power cable white to Light cable white.
  • Light cable black to Switch#2 cable black.
  • Switch#2 cable red and white to traveler screws.
At Switch#2:
  • Cable red and white to traveler screws.
  • Black to common (black) screw.
At light:
  • Black to black.
  • White to white.
Of course, interconnect all grounding wires and green screws in each box.

Not quite my situation.

I have 14-2 going to the light. This whole lash-up was already wired in the house. I am moving switch 1 but I did not pay enough attention to how it was wired before I cut all the wires.
