Question AFCI protection

About to re-wire an old farmhouse. What can anyone tell me about AFCI's? There seems to be some debate about their usefulness. I believe the NEC requires them on new installations, but haven't double checked to be sure.

The 2002 NEC requires the use of AFCI breakers for receptacles serving bedrooms. Whether or not they are required in your area depends on whether or not your locality has adopted the 2002 NEC.

Hot-
Just to clarify. The 1999 NEC requires them for BR receptacles. 2002 requires all BR outlets to be AFCI. This includes lighting and smoke detector outlets.

I have yet to hear any good words about AFCI breakers. Any improvement on that front?
