Pony Panel
#1

Hello ...... My name is Paul .... I am new to this. I live in WIndsor Ontario Canada. Can anybody help me with a few answers? I am going to put a 60 amp 220 V pony panel in my attached garage. I will be running about 65 feet of 6/3 wire from my main panel in the house. The 60 amp breaker will be installed in this panel. The pony panel in the garage will be a lighting panel with lugs on it ( no main breaker ). One question is ..... how high off of the floor must the panel be to be considered legal. ( I was told that they can't be too high ). I am going to use a pioneer stab lock pony panel. Another question I have is .... How do I hook up the wires properly. Where do the wires go? I have done a fair bit of wiring in the past but am not too sure about hooking up this panel for 220 V.
Thanking you in advance:

The CEC differs from the NEC, and the Ontario code differs from the CEC. A few of us here have some knowledge of Ontario code, but not many.
If you were governed by the NEC, then there are restrictions on side-to-side clearance, clearance in front, minimum headroom, and maximum breaker handle height. But I don't know of a minimum height.
Your question of "Where do the wires go?" is just a little scary. I suggest you carefully take the panel cover off your main panel and study that. The subpanel wiring will be very similar, except for the requirement to keep the neutrals and grounds electrically separate.

Ok ...... Thanks John for your expertise. If I follow what I see in the main panel, I will hook up a red and a black wire to the 60 amp breaker in the main panel. The white wire goes on a strip where all the other white wires are and the ground goes on to the grounding strip. I will do the same in the pony panel ( they are both from the same manufacturer ). Does this sound about right? As for the clearances, I have nothing on either side of the box, and a car will be parked in front of the box ( but not too close ). I believe I was wrong when I asked how high off the floor should the box be. I should have asked what the maximum height of the box can be. Since the house is only 7 years old, I'm thinking that I can just measure the main panel height and duplicate it in the garage. I got the idea after reading your answer about studying the main panel wiring ...... thank you. ....
Does any of this sound out of line?????? I'll try and get back to you as soon as I complete the job. Now to start running wire .......
Thanks again:
Paul .....
