Heat tapes for ice jamb?
Hi;
I live in Wi and have a couple of older properties with low pitch roofs, and gutters jamb if snow isn't pulled off, and sometimes anyway.
No attics, cathedral celings, no way to reinsulate without pulling roof$$$$$$$$. If so what heat tapes are available, are they safe or practical? I have never seen or used them.. Am getting older and thought they might be useful in heavy snow time, if they don't burn you down?
thanks

Web site for ice melting equipment
I'm considering the same thing. I posted recently about ice melting methods, but haven't had much response.
Found a good web site at:
http://www.heatersplus.com/roofs.htm
that has a some information.
Good luck!

As another WI resident I have the same question with an added question. If they are practical & safe, should the heat tape be run down the whole downspout also? Otherwise wouldn't the downspout still freeze and all you end up with is water filling the gutter and running over creating icicles.

Hey fellow Wisconsinites!
I used to have problems with ice in the gutters. I ran a heat tape in the gutter and down the downspout. It works pretty well, and have had no problems with birds or squirrels chomping the cable.
Go Badgers!!
