This is likely the thermal overload. Does the bulb come back on again for a few minutes after it cools down?

This seems unusual with only a 60-watt bulb, since most fixtures will accept this much (double-check the wattage of that bulb). Perhaps there is insulation contact with a non-IC fixture, or perhaps some other aspect of the installation is trapping too much heat. Or perhaps the thermal overload in the fixture is malfunctioning.

60 Watt bulbs

Two possibilities, One if the fixture was made for R type bulbs and the 60's are standard light bulbs it will overheat the thermal element in the fixture, R bulbs reflect heat down!! Secondly, I insulation in laying on top of the fixture, heat will be trapped and cause the thermal protection to open!!! A last possibility is that the thermal element is defective, most are replaceable from below!!!

Good Luck, BTW this is a quite common problem!!!
