Access to High Ceiling for Ceiling Fan Install

Hello everyone - I have a two story family room (roughly 18' from floor to ceiling) in which I would like to install a ceiling fan. I am having difficulty finding a reasonable scaffolding system for home use (one that is fairly priced, that I can disassemble and store in the garage).

Can anyone provide any suggestions? We would also use it for painting, etc. Thanks...

Why not rent scaffolding or a versalift?

I purchased an aluminum 16' 'A' Frame ladder. Alluminum for cost.
http://www.laddersource.com/Aluminum_Step.html for approx $400
I was worth it when I considered that I will be up there more than once in over the lifetime of the house.

Ron, can you reach an 18-foot-high ceiling from that ladder? I'm not sure that there is a ladder solution for pittpanther, is there? I think the scaffolding rental is probably the best idea. Plan to do the fan and painting in a single day.

I stand on the third to the top rung (feet @ approx 14' in the air) and reach up the remaining 4'.

Oh, I see. Does this fold up smaller than 16' long so that you can move it around the house?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I am leaning towards the scaffolding solution as well - primarily because I have a slight fear of heights, and wouldn't feel comfortable on the ladder with the fan at that height !

Does Home Depot rent scaffolding? I would love the idea of the VersaLift - I'm just not sure if I could easily get it into the house!

John,
Unfortunately it folds to larger than 16', as each leg in the A Frame position is 16" tall, the leg itself is the hypotenuse.
It lays nicely across the end of my two car garage. I generally need help getting it in and out of the house without redecorating the walls with holes.

Aluminum ladders are a poor choice for any electrical installation.
