Best way to reach vaulted ceiling fixture?

Howdy folks. Big fan of this place.

So I'm mid-ceiling fan replacement, and it turns out the existing fixture's extension pipe doesn't have the same threading as the new fan. (Side question: is there such a thing as a thread adapter? the pipe threads (male end) are smaller than the fan threads. You might notice the crappy attempt at the good ol' teflon tape solution in the picture)

As you can see from the picture, the fixture is at least 5' from the top of my 8' ladder. For reference, the ladder is directly under the fixture. Suggestions on the best way to reach it?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I recommend you install all the parts that come with the new fan. Don't try to reuse one fan's mounting bracket and downrod with another fan.

Rent a taller ladder. 12-foot step ladders (and even taller) are readily available at modest prices from rental centers.

And if the long downrod does not fit exactly get a new one that does. Do not alter any aprts of a fixture or fan.
