light switch with 3 outlets
#1

My son changed my light switch over to a dimmer kind.
Now the outlets do not work. They read ok, but when you plug something into them, no electricty.
He threw out the old switch. I bought a regular one and it doesn't seem to work either.
Do I have to get a special kind of switch for the lights and outlets. If so, where can I get one, the regular Hardware store, didn't know what I was talking about.
I am trying to fix this myself, so would appreciate all the help I can get.
Thank you

Clarify "they read ok". It's clear that your son miswired the switch. You can fix it. Work with us. We will need to ask you a few more questions after you answer this one.

Replace the dimmer with a regular switch. You should not be controlling receptacles with a dimmer. If someone plugged a vacuum for example into one of the dimmed outlets and thee dimmer was not up all the way to full you would have a problem with the vacuum. The dimmer would probably also blow as it does not have the rating to run a vacuum.
