Smile Sub Panels

Can someone advise me as to how many additional circuits I can run from a new sub panel? I have one in the old part of my home and it has 4 circuits. However, in my new addition I would like to install one that has more circuits than that, since I will need to move some of existing ones to access the main panel in order to allow for a sub panel. Can sub panels have as many circuits as mains? Thankyou, Mike

Yes, subpanels can have up to 42 circuits, same as the main. Of course, this doesn't guarantee that you will have the electrical capacity you need. Number of circuits and number of kilowatts are two different considerations.
