Question smoke detectors

Question.....

Are smoke detectors suggested by the NEC, to be installed in attic spaces??? Attic space that is not useable for any other purpose but a FAU.

The NEC does not require smoke detectors. This is covered in the building codes.

Most building codes do not require detectorsin attics.

Assuming this is a single-family home...the other answers are correct. The NEC does not require smoke detection anywhere...what is says is if smokes are required by another code (building, fire, local ordinance) they must be installed in accordance with the NEC.

Under most model codes if the attic is not living space smoke detection will not be required.
