Small Power Panel??

Hi guys,

I would like to drop a 3'-0"(vertical) x 1'- 0"(wide) plywood electrical outlet mounting board (framed with 2x4s from the floor joists) in my basement. This will be for power tools in a little woodworking shop. It is to be located in the center of the basement at a bench.

Can I drop one dedicated (20a/120v) circuit from the floor joists "stapled in Romex" down the face of this small plywood power panel to a 4x4 utility box with a GFCI duplex receptacle?

or

Do I have to run 1/2" EMT or BX vertically from the floor joist to the utility box?

Thanks
Bob

the romex would have to be protected from damage, otherwise, bX is called for. You mention that you will frame the plywood with 2x4s. could you add another piece of plywood on the back side, making a box? Then you could run the romex inside, protected from damage.

Yes - I can add more plywood on the backside and turn it into an enclosed box (similar to wall construction). Cable will then feed down through the inside.

Thanks for the idea,
Bob
