electical wiring

I wish to add a recepticle in my utility shed. I now have a light fixture and a switch controlling the fixture. The power source goes to the fixture, and one cable goes to the switch.
Question: Can I access power for my new recepticle from the switch, or must I go to the light fixture?
How do i connect.

In order to pull power from the switch you would need to have a three wire cable going from the light to the switch. This is unlikely. If you do have a three wire cable then you can do so.

Assuming you don;t have that particular cable in place, you have two options.

You can run a cable from the light to the receptacle. Connect the new cable to the incoming power connections.

You can replace the wire going to the switch with three conductor wire., and then run a new wire to the receptacle. This way involves more work, so I would just go the first route.

Thanks for the prompt reply. This is my first usage of the service. I'm impressed.
