I ran a new 20amp breaker with a four wire. Used the black as hot at the breaker ran it to a GFI wired it over to a switch. I did not use the red from breaker to GFI to switch. My next move was I ran a short test wire because I thought I did not know what I was doing (quess what I missed something!) . I am going to a light and an other socket. my switch has a common side with 3 inlets for wires the other end has only the push and screw. I put the black wires into the common thought that was the constant hot side and had a red wire out to the light along with whites to the socket and light. The outlet is hot but the light switch does not work. I can place the red wire with the blacks and have a light but I am missing the switch what am I doing wrong?

Your post is a little confusing. I'm not sure I understand it all.
If your switch has 3 screws and one is marked common the it is a 3 way switch. It is meant to be used as part of system with 2 switches controlling a light.
Ignoring the red wire from the panel as it is not needed this should be your connections.
at switch
power black to black out to light and to switch.
Power in white to white out to light
red to light to other screw on switch.
At light
red from switch to black from light
all whites together.
black from switch to black to receptacle.
at receptacle
black to gold screw
white to silver screw.

breaker outlet switch
I did not relize that there were different switches. I am using left over parts from my house build 10 years ago. In the Shop I used the single switch and things work great. Thanks everybody!
