blown fuses
recently i had fuses that blew out do to my tenant kitchen light fixtures wires being old and brittle. i had an electrician re-wire the fixture which put the fixture back into good stead. however the switches are working correctly but the wall outlets are not. it seems that the kitchen wiring hookup is the source for the main wires that lead to everything else ( a hall light, wall outlets, wall switches ). there are six wires traveling down from the top of the ceiling ( the light fixture has its two wires ). what would be a good way to determine which wires are which because the old wiring was old, tarnish, and unidentifiable. Thanks for your help

What you need is a non-contact voltage detector, aka "tick tester". You simply hold it close to the various wires, which must be energized of course, and it will beep when you place it near a hot wire.
You say you had an electrician rewire the fixture, did he reinstall the fixture too? If so, it sounds like may have created this situation and he should be called back to fix it.
