Acceptible mounting surface for electrical panel

Can anyone tell me if plywood, partical board,chip-board,drywall or other surfaces are acceptible surfaces for mounting an electrical panel?

If not, what is up to code and what is not?

regards,

sean

" plywood is pretty much standard issue. If your basement is very wet PT plywood is a good idea. Many folks don't like the PT inside their house but if your basement is that wet you're probably not spending much time there anyway.
Sometimes I like to build the plywood out off 2x4's on the flat so there is a 1" air space behind the board.
