Double wall switch
I have one wall receptocal with two switches (one single unit, one switch above the other). The top switch operates one overhead light. The bottom switch is part of a threeway switch for a fan and overhead light. I need to replace the unit. Any ideas, problems? A special switch needed?

Apparantly you have a "2-gang" switch-outlet box containing two devices. One device is a "standard" single-pole switch, and the other device is a "duplex" switch, two switches in one device, and one of the two is a single-pole switch and the other is a 3-way.
The difficulty is the various "combinations" of 3-way switch-connections possible in a wiring arrangement, and the difficulty is exaserbated by the "duplex" device connection.
Possibly you could provide a detailed description of the wire-connections in the switch-outlet box.You may have 4 or 5 wires connected to the "duplex" device, 2 wires connected to the "standard' single-pole switch, and other wires spliced together inside the box.
Want to "give it a try"?
Good Luck & Enjoy the Experience!!!!

One side of the switch is 2 silver screws with two black wires. The other side of the switch has two top brass screws, one with one white wire, the other with a red wire;and a silver screw with one white wire

Why do you "need" to replace it? If you replace it with an identical unit and connect it the same way, there should be no problem. Pay attention to the tabs between screws, if any.
This is called a duplex switch. It is not a receptacle. You should be able to find an identical replacement easily.
