10-3 wire hook up to heat pump?

I'm more familiar with paired, out of phase AB hots to achieve 220V, but when I stepped up to 10 gauge needs, the only wire I found was 10-3, whats the proper procedure? I'm hooking up a heat pump with 2 blacks and a green, and it requires local bonding to ground via a lug on the outside of the unit. I assume it's black->black red->black white->green but what about the bare ground in the 10-3? It doesn't go to the external lug, so how is it handled in this scenario?

Thanks

You could have used 10/2. Since you don't need the white wire, just cap it at both ends witha wire nut.
