How do I wire Whole House Fan?
#1

I'm installing a 30 inch Attic Aire whole house fan this week end.
The only problem that I am having is how connect the wires to the motor and from there to the wall switch.
The instructions give no clue how it should be wired other than stating that "From the attic, follow all local electrical codes to connect wires to the fan motor and drop wires down the wall cavity to the location where the wall switch will be placed." The switch has low, off & high, with 3 wires, 2 black & one red. I haven't pulled out the fan out of the box to see the wire colors or number.
With this limited information, can anyone tell me how to wire the fan & switch? Or do I need to pull out the fan and see what the wire colors are?
Thanks.
Ted

1st the switch-1 black is power into the switch,2nd black is high, red is low.
Do you have power coming into the switch location {preferred},or at the fan?It should be on a dedicated circuit using a wire gauge suitable for the current the fan will draw. You will need to run a 3 wire cable {black, red, white, ground} of the same gauge from the switch to the fan.
Switch connection is as follows: black to black from the power, white from power to white from 3 wire cable, black to black from the 3 wire cable, red to red from 3 wire cable.
Fan connection is as follows:Since you have no wire colors listed I'll use fan speeds, black to Hi,red to low, white to white.
If the feed comes in at the fan all you have to do is use the white in the 3 wire cable as a switched wire {properly marked with black tape at each end},and the white from the power gets connected to the white of the fan,all other connetcions remain the same as above.Good Luck.
