Wiring a gable vent attic fan

I am interested in putting in a gable mount attic fan to exhaust heat from my attic. Upon research, I've learned you must wire this fan directly into the electrical system of the house, there are no plug-in fans. I've done basic electrical work around the house, replacing outlets and switches, etc, but never something this advanced. Can someone give me a quick 'wiring for dummies' lesson so I can install my attic fan? I have a receptacle very near by.

In my opinion, these fans are worthless. But if you're determined...

It's basically wired the same way as a new lighting fixture. Get a book on home wiring and it should show you what you need. Also, the installation instructions that come with the fan will hopefully be good.

Will there be a thermostat involved, or will it be switched on and off only manually? Where will the switch be?
