spring clip wire connectors

I was in my favorite elect. supply today and the counterman gave me a box of wire connectors to try. They are designed to connect two, three, or four 12 or 14 ga. wires. Inside are spring clips which hold the wire when pushed in the holes on the end of the connector. They take up less room than a wirenut and are quicker to install however they work on the same principal as the backstab recpts. of which I have replaced many. These are new to me and I just wondered if anyone had had any problems with them.

Hi scrap,I have seen these in trade mags & in some new fixtures I've installed but have'nt use them alone.I would hope they are better engineered than the backstabs on residential grade devices.

24VDC to 9VDC relay

Hi all, I have a small project I am building that will turn on my sprinkler pump whenever a timer turns on a zone. (3 of them.) Essentially, I am taking 24VAC from the timer, rectifying it to 24VDC, filtering with a cap, and want to hook it up to a 9VDC relay (because I already have them.) The relay calls for 18mA nominal coil current. Someone at Radio Shack calculated that I would need a 150 ohm resistor between the + side of the 24VDC and the 9VDC relay. Can someone confirm for me that this is correct and will be OK over the long term? It works OK right now. The relay gets warm but not hot, even after 30 minutes. (It will not be on more than 20 minutes at a time - while that zone is sprinkling.) Can someone explain how it is OK to run a 9VDC device with 24VDC? Does it have to do with current draw overall? plumbing near electric panel

I am going to post this question in the plumbing section as well. I am planning on putting a dish washer in my kitchen this fall and when I was looking at how to run the plumbing I realized that directly below where the dishwasher would go is my panel and disconnect. I can make it past the panel and up to where the plumbing needs to go but I was wondering, is there any code that limits plumbing from being within certian distances of the main panel and disconnect? The drain would come down through the floor behind the panel by a few inches and then either run above the panel or if need be down and below the panel, either way it will run at some point within a foot of the panel. As well the water supply pipes will have to run a similar path and I was planning on using copper pipe to match the rest of the house. I live in Manitoba Canada if anyone knows the specifics of the canadian building code.Read More
