whirlpool heater

I have a inline heater for a whirlpool tub that I am installing in the supply line to the pump .The ? is do I wire the heater in series to the pump or have a Timer for the heater. If I use a timer what if a kid turns the heater on with out water in tub??? Mike

Wiring the heater in series with the pump would be very bad. You would want to put the heater on a thermostat that was only powered when the whirlpool pump is on. I would hope that no one would turn on the pump with no water in the tub.
