Basic Circuit Question

How many plugs are you able to put on a 15 amp circuit? What about lights? Are there general guidelines anywhere for someone to look up?

For residential circuits in North America, you are allowed by code to put a million receptacles on the same 15-amp circuit if you want. However, eight is the rule-of-thumb recommendation. There are a number of possible reasons to go above or below this recommendation. It depends on how you plan to use this circuit.

For lighting, you are allowed to put up to 1800 watts of lighting on a 15-amp residential circuit (assuming nothing else is on the circuit). Most people, however, would suggest that you stay below 80% of that.
