Question not enough electrical wire

Hi,

I'm installing a new dishwasher. The new one has the terminal box on the other side of the dishwasher than where the old did. This is causing a problem because now the existing power from the electrical wire is about
3"-4" too short. I just can't work it into the terminal box to connect it to the wiring of the dishwasher. I'm not sure what my options are to resolve this. Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

The best bet would be to follow the cable back to where it comes from, disconnect it there, and replace it with a longer cable.

If local code will allow, you can install an outlet (might be surface mounted in adjacent cabinet or use a "remodel box" and recess into the wall behind the dishwasher) and wire the dishwasher with an appliance cord and plug. That's standard procedure in our area and would solve your problem easily. I would call the local inspector and ask.

Good idea Doug.

Code restricts the length of a dishwasher cord to the minimum length necessary so that you can pull the dishwasher out four feet from the back wall.

Another option is a "floating" junction-box under the D-W. You can also connect a dis-connect switch in the J-B.

Good Luck & Enjoy the Experience!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks all. I was struggling to get my mind around this. My regular consultant (grandfather) is on vacation. You gave me some excellent ideas I hadn't thought of.
