aluminum wire and fire

Ok, this is a very naive person, but anyway, I rented a condo to see if I would like living in a condo. I do not.

The other day the Air conditioning went out so we called the building management and were told it would be out for a few days. Well knowing the building staff well and snooping I found out that the wiring to the AC had caught fire. Not a small fire but the whole 4 foot by 6 foot panel almost totaled. Today I was on the roof deck and talking to a staff person he picked up a piece of discarded aluminum cable about 1/2 inch thick(it has markings RW90) and said this is what caused the fire. Should I be concerned?

Not enough information to say. Properly installed aluminum wire is safe. Improperly installed, everything is dangerous. Aluminum does, however, offer a few more opportunities for improper installation.
