Whole House Fan and Firestat

I have a house built in 1959 that has a whole house fan. The fan is not wired with a firestat. I understand the saftey features of having it, but is not having it a violation of code?

It violates no code that I know of. My whole house fan which I just installed last month doesn't have one either. Although firestats are common with attic fans, I don't think I've ever seen one on a whole house fan.

As John said, firestats on whole house fans are not necessarily code, but I think they are a good idea. I installed one on my whole house fan (home built, from a large belt driven furnace blower), and I don't think I paid more than $10 for the firestat.
Good cheap insurance, I think.
