ceiling fan wiring

We have prewired ceiling fan that has a light and fan switch on the wall. The wires that come out of the ceiling are black, white, red, and green. The two wires that come out of the fan are black and white. Of course, the instructions do not tell us what to hook up to what. Can anyone help?

If there are only two wires coming out of the fan, it is likely that the fan has a built-in remote receiver. Did the fan come with a remote?

If there is no remote, then there should be a third wire, usually blue or black with a white stripe.

There should also be a green wire from the fan for grounding.

Can you tell us the make and model number of the fan and whether you spend more than $50 for it (or if you acquired it second hand)?
