Need some help with wiring....

I recently had a kitchen fire and the hood over my stove was crispied..I need to remove it now, but am scared of messing with the wiring for the light or fan..Can someone tell me how to do that safely, without knocking myself into the next county? I sure would appreciate it alot!
Odd thing though, the thing still works..go figure....well, not the fan, but the light does..I have to do these repairs myself, so go slow..please..lol!
Thanks...alot!

It's tough to say much without being able to see what you've got there. I'd start by shutting off the breaker and removing everything so you can examine it closely and do an assessment. A lot depends on how much damage there is.
