Dimmer Wiring

I am tring to use a dimmer on my recessed lighting. The current configuration is there are two switches beside one an other one controlling an outlet and the other running the lighting in question. The only wires goin to the switch are 2 black wires one in and out i presume but how do i wire the dimmer into that?
Thanx

P.S the other switch has a red wire running to it then a black running out to the wire nut, from there (the wire nut) the black pigtails to the switch in question then runs to the light.

The two wires on the light switch get connected to the dimmer switch.

To expand a bit on Bob's post, the old light switch has two wires, the new dimmer switch has two wires. Connect the one-to-one in either order. The dimmer probably also has a grounding wire which you should attach to the grounding connections in the box (if any).

You must connect one black wire to one lead, the other black wire to the other lead. No, you do not need the ground connected for it to work.

I siggest that you verify that you have power going into the dimmer.
