How to wire a circuit from box through attic to conduit?
I want to make a circuit to the other side of my garage. I want to go from the utility box, up into the attic and down into the garage which will have the wires in surface mounted conduit. My question is the wire that runs through the attic is supposed to be NM cable, but the wire inside of conduit is THHN. What is the right way to do this?

I'll assume that you live in a city that allows NM. Most do. Simply use NM the entire way, even inside the conduit, up to the first box. Code allows NM inside of conduit when used for physical protection and not as a complete conduit system. If conduit is used for the entire distance from one box to another, that is the time to use THHN. If you'd prefer THHN in all of your conduit, then just install a box up in your attic where you transition from NM to THHN, which is where the conduit will start.

Ok I will just use NM all the way to to the box. Now I wonder what the right way to come out of the conduit is. If I have the conduit mounted on the wall should I go straight up through the celing, and then do I need a bushing on the end of the conduit? I am going to be using PVC conduit and boxes.

Yes, just run the conduit up through the ceiling. The concern where the cable enters the conduit is that the sharp edge of the conduit might damage the cable. A bushing is one way to soften the edge, but a bit of sandpaper will do the same thing.
