wiring question

i added a flourescent light to a single pole outside light circuit. we have'nt installed flourecent bulbs yet, we turned the switch on to see if the circuit was complete and noticed the outside light bulb barely glows.
what could be the problem?

If I understand correctly, you added a fluorescent fixture to an existing incandescent fixture? If this is the case, you may have wired the new fixture in series with the existing one. Can you confirm how you wired the new fixture (where you connected each of the wires)?

That would be my guess also, that you wired the light in series with the existing light.

Very scary Halloween wiring pics! 1 & 2

As it is so close to Halloween, I thought I'd share these spooky :eek: pictures of some of the monsters that lurk in my crawlspace. To begin with, this is what was running power to the *stove*. Notice how it was spliced in one spot and marretted. What you can't see as well is where it was spliced without wire nuts then each wire was wrapped in electrical tape and the whole ghoul was wrapped in MASKING TAPE! Lights go on and off by themselves

Hello everyone, I am not a do it yourselfer (single Mom) but need to know if this is a serious problem that needs an electrician or just an annoyance. I have trouble reading the panels (2) as most of the paper is worn off. I have a hall light with two switches. Sometimes the light comes on, sometimes it doesn't when we switch it on and sometimes it goes on or off by itself through the night if left on. Same for a bathroom below it that is probably on the same breaker.This does not happen all the time. The hall light has been doing this for about a monthand the bathroom just started doing it two days ago. We also have a light in the family room ( not on same breaker, one is a dimmer) and it has been doing it for months...... any help greatfully accepted maggieRead More
