Wiring dimmer in a double Box

I want to put a dimmer on my bathroom vanity light.
The box has both the Switch for the light in it and a receptable.

The way it is wired now is that when the light is turned off it also turns off the plug in the box.

I would like to be able to have them operate independently.

There is a "hot" pair of wires coming into the box and the pair for the light.

How would I wire this so the receptable is always "hot" and I can turn light on/off/dim them.

thanks

Put the receptacle on the always hot side of the switch, not the switched side of the switch.

In other words, connect the black power feed wire both to one of the dimmer wires, and to a pigtail to a brass screw on the receptacle. Connec the black light fixture wire to the other dimmer wire. Connect both white wires to the silver screws on the receptacle. If you don't know for sure which black wire is the power feed and which is the light fixture wire, just try one and then the other until it works the way you want.
