Question abandoned light box

The previous HO finished the attic. The original overhead light boxes have been abandoned. Wires are capped off and each is covered (one with the battery operated smoke detector, the other with a cover). A third, working overhead light is in the room, connected to the light switch at the door.

I am about to panel this room''s ceiling. Do I need to keep access to the abandoned light boxes? Is my answer dependent on whether these wires are alive or not?

Thanks

If you want to cover the ceiling you need to remove the boxes/wiring.As you have guess the wiring must be accesible.Removal doesn't sound like its going to be that hard as the unused lights are most likely connected to each other and to the one you now use.

The wires need to be dead. If you disconnect them at the feed you don't actually need to remove them.
