Solo chick needs dryer plug help
Im glad to have found you guys. HELP!!! I moved into a mobile home and the wall has a 4 prog outlet for the dryer but the coard is 3 prong. I bought the dryer several moves ago and have since lost the instruction book. So, I went to the hardware store and bought the 4 prong replacement, took the access panel off the dryer, removed the old black, white and red wires but heres the problem...the green ground wire. Within the dryer, the green ground wire comes clumped inside one large wrap of wires and is connected to the outside of the dryer. BUT, my new plug also has a green ground wire. So, do i disconect the ground wire thats already there and connect the new green wire in its place and if so, what do i do with the old green wire since there is no way to remove it

You need to find the directions fopr your dryer. If you don;t have them (and you say you don;lt) then contact the manufacturer, perhaps through their web site. You can get the instructions from them, or off their web site.

Something doesn't sound right here.
You had better check the connections inside your drier carefully.
If you have found a white wire inside the drier you have to find out what the white wire is for and make note of where it was connected.
A white wire is normally connected as a neutral conductor which you wouldn't have with the three prong connector on your drier.

Be careful. Everything that works is not safe. If you did not remove a bonding strap or wire between your neutral terminal and the chassis of your dryer, you have a functional but not as safe as it could be installation.

Remove the existing green and cap it off securely. YOu do not want to go into the harness to remove it. Capping it off is the best bet.

i called an applicance repair man and he simplified the whole thing. The wires were never bare...they have clips on each end that just screw into the appropriate color coded place. Kind of like the back of stereo speakers, lift the clip, put in the wire, screw the clip down. He said to just attach both ground wires because they come from different sources, just seperate them with a washer, which i did

NOPE! Not good!
The ground coming from the harness needs to be isolated or removed. Cut it off and cap it securely.
Keeping it the way it is defeats the whole idea of separate ground and neutral. If there is a fault the case can carry the current and you may get shocked. Also it is very code illegal.
I guess assuming an appliance guy would know this is asking too much.
