How far the receptacle has to be away from vanity top

I need to move a GFCI receptacle down a few inches to clear the spot for tile trim and mirror. Is there a code to regulate the minimum distance from vanity top surface to receptacle? the vanitiy top is water wet sometimes and receptacle is about 20 inches away from lavatory sink.

No. Code doesn't limit how close the GFCI is to the sink, but it does limit how far away it can be. Sounds odd, doesn't it?

I sure hope the cable(s) are coming from the direction you want to move the receptacle. Otherwise, this could be twenty times more difficult.

Thanks, John.
The cable does come from that direction. what I'm afraid is that if the receptacle is too close to counter top, it may get wet. I plan to move it down to 3 inches off the vanity top and install it harizontally to avoid a broken tile trim.
