You need to ask a specific question and provide details if you want an answer that makes sense.

Do you mean two switches to control a light, or a switch to control two lights?

Is this an existing setup your are modifying or a new installation?

Remodel.....(Electrical Questions)

Hi, I have a three-unit building located in New York City which I am in the process of remodeling. Each unit has an electric meter and a breaker panel. There are two problems with this. First, the panels are FPE Stablock which should be replaced. Second, all three panels are located in the basement which is not normally open to occupants of the units. Electricity comes into the building into a single service disconnect box, then branches to the three meters, and then to the three FPE breaker panels. I have run appropriately-sized four-wire bx cable to each unit, installed a new Murray breaker panel in each unit, and plan to connect each unit's individual circuits to the appropriate panel. I want to bypass each FPE panel and connect the new cable to each unit to the cable which currently connects each meter to the FPE panel. What I need to know is what type of box do I need for this purpose. Does it have to be fused? Since there is a central disconnect at the point where power enters the building, does the line to each unit have to be capable of being disconnected? Any help would be greatly appreciated.Read More

Adding switch to pull chain fixture

We moved into this house with a partially finished basement. The lighting seems to have been installed when the house was built. In one room, there is a pull chain light fixture, this is the first fixture in a line of 5. The other basement lights work off a switch at the top and bottom of the stairs. There is a light switch on the wall of the room with the pull chain light, that we can only assume that they wanted to hook up to this light. It is not connected to anything else (we checked as the walls and ceiling are still open on the other side and is dead. We thought that we accomplished connecting the switch to the fixture but soon realized that the other basement lights didn't operate with their respective switch. All of the switches would operate the new fixture, but the switch would also turn off all the other basement lights but then the original switch would not turn on any lights. Can we install the switch that would only operate the new fixture that is replacing the pull chain fixture and then have the remaining 4 basement lights work off of their existing switch? Right now after we removed the pull chain fixture we have 2 sets of wires in the ceiling box and a disconnected switch and wiring. Hoping I made sense.
