dimming lights plugged into outlets

Hello, I am curious if I can replace a switch with a dimmer switch that controls a few outlets. Plugged into these outlets are Halogen under cabinet lights. I think there are about 8-10 of them. The lights say they are dimmable and since they are made to plug into outlets I don't see why this would be a problem. Any thoughts.

It is technically a code violation to dim receptacles. But it will certainly work, and although I almost never advocate code violations, I'd say you have as good a reason as any. This is only justified if these receptacles are dedicated to the lighting and are never used for anything else.

X-10

don't forget about X-10 products, they can control you whole home without the need to change or violate any electrical codes.
