There is much more to installing a new receptacle then simply connecting the wire properly.

You have to determine how to get the cable from the existing receptacle to the new one. You have to properly install a box for the new receptacle. You have to use the proper size cable for the fuse or circuit breaker protecting the circuit. Most importantly, you have to make sure that the circuit can be extended in the first place.

The black wire gets connected to the brass screw side of the receptacle. The white wire gets connected to the silver screw side of the receptacle. The ground wire gets connected to the green ground screw.

If you don't have at least those same wires at the existing receptacle then stop, you most likely can;t extend this circuit. If you have additional wires at the existing circuit (in additional to the ones I mentioned) then you can likely proceed, but the wiring may get tricky.
