Still no lights

Does it matter what order you put the black and white wires in a new outlet as long as the the ones coming from the same conduit are oppisite eachother???

It does not matter from an operational point of view (i.e., it will still work if you reverse the wires), but it definitely does matter from a safety point of view. This is one of the reasons I repeat this mantra often: "Not everything that works is safe."

Normally, the black (hot) is attached to the brass screw, and the white (neutral) is attached to the silver screw.
